Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Statement in Connection With the Anti-Semitic Attack in Brussels

                  25.05.2014

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress has learned the news about the anti-Semitic terrorist attack in Brussels with pain and anger. The killers opened fire near the Museum of Jewish Culture, and four people became victims of the shooting.

One can hardly doubt that the incident was an extreme manifestation of the anti-Semitic and anti-Israel attitude that is currently raising its head in Europe. The perpetrators of this bloody crime should be severely punished, but attention must be chiefly directed to the origins of the incident. Ensuring the safety of the Jewish community does not only mean strengthening the policing of Jewish sites, but also to suppress anti-Semitic propaganda.

EAJC sincerely hopes that this tragedy will become a wake-up call for the authorities of Belgium and other European countries, and that the growing aggressive anti-Semitism will be responded to effectively.

EAJC expresses its deep condolences to the bereaved families and the entire Jewish community of Belgium.
