Josef Zisels Meets With President of the Boell Foundation

                  09.03.2014, Region

On March 8, 2014, Chairman of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress General Council (EAJC) Josef Zisels met with the President of the Heinrich Boell Foundation, Ralf Fücks.

Zisels answered Fücks’ questions on the Ukrainian situation, the possible ways of its development, and the current position of the Jewish community in the civil and political standoff. The two sides also discussed possibilities for cooperation in monitoring and analysing manifestations of xenophobia (particularly in Eastern Europe) and having the new Ukrainian government join this program.

At the end of 2007, President Victor Yuschenko initiated the creation of departments to counter xenophobia in various Ukrainian ministries and institutions. These departments were then abolished when Victor Yanukovich came to power.

Currently, the new Ukrainian democratic government is discussing the restoration of these departments in the current executive branch of the government with civil society and the Jewish community.
