Project Kesher, an international women’s organization that is a part of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, held an interfaith meeting together with the “Women and Politics” magazine to create a joint “Tablecloth of Peace.” The Moscow House of Russian Romance Songs gathered those of like mind who believe that the most important condition for the continued existence of multinational Russia as a state is civil and inter-ethnic concord.

The gathering was part of the project “Not in Our City!” “We live in one house! Our house has place for all people of good will, united by mutual respect, cooperation, and raising children in the spirit of respect and acceptance of those who differ,” said Svetlana Yakimenko, the leader of Project Kesher, in her speech. “Russia is a secular state. It has enough place for all of the peoples who live here, who have lived here in concord for a long time, and who support each other,” said the editor-in-chief of the “Women and Politics” magazine Vladimir Yatsenko.

Among other participants were the President of the “Art of Good” Charity Foundation Valentina Novakovskaya and member of the Russian Union of Women Muslims Guzel Mubinova. Women of all walks of life were present: leaders of national and cultural NGOs, international foundations and school principals.

The clean white tablecloth turned into the bright “Tablecloth of Peace” over the course of three hours after the participants wrote their wishes and opinions on it with colored sharpies. Project Kesher calls: “My city, my country, my planet should have no place for hatred and enmity between people of different nationalities who live under one sky. Together we can stand against adversity!”
