EAJC Presidium Member Becomes Deputy Chairman of People's Assembly of Kazakhstan

                  30.04.2013

The XX Session of the People's Assembly of Kazakhstan has taken place in Almaty. President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has participated in the anniversary sesion.

In his speech the Head of State noted that the Assembly has become the most important general civil organ of Kazakhstan. “Kazahstan is a territory that is free of ethnic conflict. The economic and socio-political reforms have succeeded thanks to inter-ethnic calm and harmony. Peace has come to every home – that is the main result of our work here,” stressed Nazarbayev. “The Assembly is a representation of all of our citizens, of all 17 million residents of Kazakhstan!”

The President of Kazakstan reminded the gathering that each year two new Deputy Chairpeople (the Chairman is the President of Kazakhstan) are appointed. This year, the new Deputy Chairpeople are President of the Mitzvah Association of Jewish Organization, EAJC Presidium Member Alexander Baron and the Chairman of the Barbang Association of Kurds of Kazakhstan Knyaz Mirzoyev.
The activity of the communities in strengthening tolerance and prosperity in the republic has been noted a multitude of times at the session. For example, Mitzvah and the EAJC hold joint seminars “Lessons of the Holocaust,” an international research conference on the evacuation of Jews to Kazakhstan, and other events aimed at this goal.

The leaders and workers of the EAJC heartily congratulate their colleague and great friend Alexander Iosifovich Baron with his election to this exalted post and wish him that his work in his new capacity would be just as fruitful as his work as a Jewish leader. We are certain that his life and professional experience will aid him in achieving success as a social and political figure in Kazakhstan, where a search for peace and concord unites all ethnicities.
