                  05.03.2013

On March 4, the Russian Ministry of Foreign affairs hosted a meeting between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mikhail Bogdanov, the Secretary General of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Michael Chlenov, and the Acting Secretary General of the World Jewish Congress Maram Stern.

The representatives of these leading Jewish structures informed the Deputy Minister of the World Jewish Congress Plenary Assembly that is being prepared to take place in May in Budapest and invited him to the upcoming forum. The participants of the meeting also discussed the current international situation, with special emphasis on the situation in the Near East.

During the discussion Mikhail Bogdanov noted the fruitful character of the steady working relationship with the office of the EAJC Secretary General and confirmed that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is ready for an exchange of opinions with representatives of umbrella Jewish structures.

That same day, Maram Stern visited the EAJC Moscow office. Preparations for the WJC Plenary Assembly and the session of the expanded WJC Executive Committee in Thessaloniki and Jerusalem in March were discussed during the meeting with the members of the Moscow office.

As Michael Chlenov notes, “The Assembly and the antecedent WJC Executive Commitee will define the image and modus operandi of the World Jewish Congress for the near future. These upcoming events are very serious, and the entire Jewish world is now preparing for them. The EAJC communities are no exception, especially considering that a session of the EAJC General Council and a youth conference under EAJC aegis will be held at the same time as the WJC Plenary Assembly in Budapest. The current meeting with the Acting Secretary General of the WJC is just one of the working moments of our scrupulous work to prepare these upcoming events.”
