                  04.02.2013

On February 4, the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Moscow office hosted a working meeting of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Secretary General Michael Chlenov and the representative of the leadership of the Jewish community of Hong Kong, founder and Editor-in-Chief of the “Asian Jewish Life” journal Erica Lyons. Among those who took part in the meeting were EAJC PR Department Head Roman Spector and Executive Director of the EAJC Moscow Office Natalia Schmidt.

The participants of the meeting exchanged opinions on the life of the Jewish communities of Russia and China. The main topic of the evening was the possibility of the Hong Kong Jewish community joining the EAJC. Erica Lyons expressed belief that this proposition will be received positively. The other important topic was the possible participation of Hong Kong community representatives in the upcoming plenary meeting of the World Jewish Congress. Michael Chlenov stressed that the EAJC is ready to aid the Hong Kong Jewish community in obtaining representation at this most important Jewish forum even before the community formally becomes a part of the Congress.

As Michael Chlenov notes, “I truly hope that the leadership of the Hong Kong Jewish community – a vibrant and active community – will decide to join our Congress. This community is undoubtedly worthy of being heard in the 'big' Jewish world, and we will be glad to help it in this matter. I would like to repeat my earlier opinion – that the cooperation of the Jewish community of Hong Kong and the EAJC has a lot of promise.”
