The leader of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress PR Department Roman Spector has paricipated in a Presidium meeting of the Diaspora Union of the Russia, which unites the extraterritorial communities of national minorities of Russia.

The most important question on the agenda was the preparation of an address to the government with a proposition to work more closely with Diaspora Union leaders and experts. In particular, the address proposes to enlist the services of Diaspora Union representatives to expert and consultative boards under the jurisdiction of different government branches that are involved in regulating the legal relationship of national minorities with the government.

A lively discussion was provoked by questions on the Communists' initiative to reintroduce the “nationality” entry into the new Russian passports and the position of the Russian Federation on the situation in Syria. Experts on Syria, who were guests of honor at this Presidium meeting, spoke at length about the standoff in Syria. A prominent part of the discussion was dedicated to the problem of refugees from multinational Syria and their status, in particular in Russia. The Presidium of the Diaspora Union decided to thoroughly examine the problem and to prepare a document addressed to to the government of the Russian Federation containing humanitarian recommendations.

As Roman Spector noted, “An engaging discussion of critical issues between the representatives of different people shows the value of coordinating our positions and gives a sturdy basis for a constructive dialogue with the government.”
