On December 9-7, a workshop for regional journalists working in covering interethnic relations took place on Kyrgyzstan. The workshop was organized by the School of Peacemaking and Media Technology (Director Inga Sikorskaya). Over the course of the three-day workshop, Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) General Council member Vyacheslav Likhachev, invited from Kyiv by the organizators, read lectures and held practical exercises for the journalists.

The participants of the workshop represented different regions of Kazakhstan, including those that were suffered during interethnic violence, pogroms and ethnic cleansing in 2010.

Over the course of the workshop the journalists discussed and worked through (on a variety of material and with practical exercises) such topics as “Ethnic stereotyping and xenophobia in the public mind and the media,” “Hate speech,” “The mobilizational potential of the media in the environment of interethnic conflict,” and others.

The EAJC General Council member also met with representatives of the Jewish community of Kyrgyzstan in Bishkek.
