                  22.11.2012

During his visit to China, Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Secretary General Michael Chlenov visited the Ogalei Rachel Jewish community center, where he had a meeting with the representative of the Hong Cong Jewish community, publisher of the “Asian Jewish Life” journal Erica Lyons.

The negotiations involved reaching an agreement for cooperation between the Hong Cong Jewish community and the EAJC, as well as the possibility for the community of Hong Cong to join the Congress sometime in the future.

A formal exchange of official letters is to take place soon for confirmation of the achieved agreement. As Michael Chlenov notes, “China is certainly a territory in which our Congress should be more active. But since China does not have a Jewish community – indeed, Judaism is not even an officially registered religion there – the Chinese Jewish community cannot join the EAJC. However, Hong Kong as a special administrative region of China hosts a fairly active Jewish community. We have made contact with this community, and its cooperation with the EAJC promises to be fruitful.”
