Announcement: Children's Camp Roots of Tolerance to Take Place in Georgia

                  24.10.2012

The first Georgian International Children's Camp “Roots of Tolerance” (“RoT Caucasus-2012”) will take place on October 31 – November 11. The camp will take place at the “Eurica” hotel of Bakuriani village.

“Roots of Tolerance” is the only camp in which children can become involved in the life, culture, and religion of the multitude of peoples who live in the Caucasus, receive a unique experience of interaction with both adult and young representatives of different national communities, and present the culture of their own people.

Over 100 children on 10 nationalities, including children from Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus, are to participate in the camp's program.

Each day at the “Roots of Tolerance” camp belongs to one of the Caucasian peoples: Georgian, Jewish, Kurd, Armenian, Roma, Azerbaijani, Ukrainian, and Osetin. The children learn the basics of local languages, songs, dances, history, and the traditions of the ethnicity of the day, and finish the day with colorful evening ethno-styled events. The methodology of this camp has been tested for 10 years in Ukraine and Moldova. It is believed that active submersion into the culture of different peoples, joint activities by children of different ethnicities, and discussions on identity in the modern world help the formation of inter-ethnic and interfaith tolerance.

The Georgian camp is organized by the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) together with the Analytical Center for Interethnic Cooperation and Consultations (Georgia).

“RoT-Caucasus-2012” will take place through the financial support of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (President – Vadim Shulman) and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (regional head – Itzik Averbuch), as well as of private sponsors: EAJC Vice Presidents Merab Elashvili, Mark Shabad, Gabriel Mirilashvili, and David Jacobashvili.
