                  EAJC Representatives Participate in Conference on Right Extremism

                  On May 22nd, representatives of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress participated in the international conference “Right-Wing Extremism in Europe: Tendencies of Development and Strategies of Counteraction,” which took place in Kiev, in the conference hall of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The event was organized by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and the Eastern European Development Institute.

                  During the conference, experts from Germany, Poland, and Ukraine shared the results of their research on the popularity of right-wind radicalism in Central and Eastern Europe and the level of xenophobic and national extremist views in society. Famous scholars and community activists, including Maksim Butkevich (Ukraine), Ulf Bunerman and Ralph Meltzer (Germany), Rafal Pankovski (Poland), Anton Shehovtsov (Ukraine). At the request of the organizators, EAJC General Council member Vyacheslav Likhachev gave a general survey of radical right-wing organizations, as well as of xenophobia and hate crime in Ukrainian society.

                  EAJC General Council Chairman Josef Zisels also participated in the discussion, who noted the particularities of post-Soviet and general Eurasian territory, which involves an identity model different from Western European, and thus in a different system of values, keystones in worldview, and political behavior.
