                  EAJC Representatives Visit Israel

                  On February 21-27, the Chairman of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) General Council Josef Zisels and EAJC General Council Member Leonid Finberg visited Israel. They held a number of meetings dedicated to the discussion of current and new EAJC projects and programs.

                  In particular, questions on cooperation in the Caucasus and Middle Asia region were discussed with the head of the Jewish Joint Distribution Committee in the Caucasus and Middle Asia Itzik Averbuch. Joint programs on fostering tolerance, developing leadership in youth, and providing matzot for the needy members of Jewish communities were discussed.

                  Programs on fostering Jewish self-awareness, children's summer camps, projects of support for Israel were discussed with JAFI head Natan Sharansky, Misha Galperin, and Roman Polonsky. During these meetings, the situation of the arrest of Sergei Maximov, a leader of the Ukrainian Jewish community who was arrested on December 22, 2011, in Kyiv.

                  EAJC representatives also met with Anna Azari, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs department head, and discussed new EAJC projects to support Israel.

                  There was also a discussion with EAJC Vice Presidents Michael and Gabriel Mirilashvili on their continued work in the EAJC.
