EAJC Helps Jewish Studies in Universities

EAJC Helps Jewish Studies in Universities

                  28.02.2012

On February 26, the Chairman of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) General Council Josef Zisels met with the Vice Rector of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Professor Yaakov Schul. At the meeting they discussed possible cooperation between the Ukrainian National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” (NaUKMA) and the Hebrew University to create a Jewish Studies Master's program in Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. The Master's program, which is being created in the NaUKMA with the participation and support of the EAJC, is planned to begin work with the new academic year. If the plans for it are realized in full, the NaUKMA Master's program will be the first fully functional university specialization in academic Jewish studies.

According to the preliminary agreement that was reached, the cooperation between the EAJC, the Kyiv-Mohyla academy, and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem will include academic supervision, visits of lecturers, training for students, and joint research projects, particularly including scholarly expeditions to the Jewish places of Ukraine for both students and researchers.

Among those who took part in the meeting were also Professor Siril Aslanov (Chase Center), Doctor Zvi Bekerman (Melton Center), and Doctor Sergei Kravtsov (Center of Jewish Art).
