                  Sergei Maximov Remains Under Arrest

                  11.01.2012

On January 3, the panel of judges of the Kyiv Court of Appeal (reporting judge Efimova, in the presence of attorney Dovgan I.M. and defense attorney Petr Boyko) has reviewed the appeal of the defense of the co-President of the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine Sergei Maximov, who was arrested on December 22, 2011. Statements by Acting President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, Vadim Shulman, and VAAD Ukraine, EAJC General Council Chairman Josef Zisels were subjoined to the appeal of Petr Boyko, who was present at the hearing. The statements held petitions for changing the pre-trial restrictions for Segei Maximov and for releasing him on bail. However, the court of appeal confirmed the decision of the Pechersky district court that had been made on December 27, 2011, for the extension of Maximov's arrest to two months.
