The opening of the Russian representative office of the World Congress of Georgian Jewish Youth (WCGJY) took place in the large prayer hall of the Moscow Bolshaya Bronnaya synagogue. Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Secretary General Michael Chlenov greeted the founders and participants of the WCGJY.

The founding of WCGJY was officially announced last year at the opening of the Peres Peace House in Jaffa (Israel). The WCGJY plans to open its representative office not just in Russia, but also in Israel, Georgia, USA, Austria, and Belgium. The WCGJY is a part of the World Congress of Georgian Jews with the personal support of President Gabriel Mirilashvili.

Michael Chlenov's greeting to the founders and participants of the WCGJY read: “We have a longstanding friendship and creative partnership with the World Congress of Georgian Jews, led by Gabriel Mirilashvili. We are proud that the World Congress of Georgian Jewish is an integral part of the EAJC, and that its leader is our own Vice President.

Georgian Jews have been able to preserve and carry their faith through all of the hardships and trials of the Soviet era. Their contribution to the development of the national movement in the former USSR is impossible to overstate, since it is in many ways thanks to the courage and firm faith of the children of Georgia that the repatriation of Jews from the Soviet Union had been able to be begun. Georgian Jews taught much to the former “Jews of silence,” and continue to teach much to this very day, demonstrating solidarity, greatness of the heart, and lavish charitability. I am truly happy that the young generation of Georgian Jews follow in the footsteps of their fathers and grandfathers?

It is deeply symbolic that the opening of the Russian representative office of the WCGJY is happening during the Holiday of Lights, during Hanukkah. This holiday symbolizes the miracle of the restoration of Jewish spiritual life, and in Russia it is filled with a special meaning, especially when it came to Jewish youth.
