The Chairman of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress General Council Josef Zisels has taken part in the introduction of the Torah scroll to a historic synagogue in Chernivtsy, open after restoration.

The synagogue was restored through the donations of community members and Chernivtsy natives who live in differenct cities and countries. During the entire renovation, the EAJC in the person of General Council Chairman Josef Zisels, who was also a native of Chernivtsy, gave significant organizational aid to the local community. The EAJC representatives in Ukraine in general take an active part in preservation of Bukovina's Jewish heritage.

As Josef Zisels noted, “It is very important for the EAJC to take part in the specific needs of specific Jewish communities. We all know that there can be no community without a synagogue. That is why we ourselves have built and restored synagogues in the countries of our region, or gave the necessary material, organizational, and moral aid.”
