On September 13, the Chairman of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) General Council Josef Zisels and EAJC General Council member, leader of the Jewish community of Armenia Rimma Vardjapetyan spoke with the representatives of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the problems of the unilateral proclamation of a Palestinian State at the nearest session of the UN General Assembly. The official position of Armenia was presented by the First Deputy of the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Arman Kirakosyan and the Director of the Near East Department of the Armenian MFA Areg Hovhanisyan.

Josef Zisels gave a detailed explanation of the EAJC''s vision of this problem, which can be summarized in the following points:

• The EAJC supports the desire of the Palestinian people for their own state, but believe that they can achieve this only through direct peace negotiations with Israel;
• EAJC urges the Armenian MFA to use their diplomatic channels to return the Palestinian leadership to direct two-sided peace negotiations with Israel;
• EAJC believes that should the UN GA vote lead to an escalation of intensity and a new round of the Near East military confrontation, the responsibility for this will be shared among all of the countries that will have voted for the populist proposition of the Palestinian leadership.

Josef Zisels also requested on behalf of the EAJC that Armenia not send its delegation to the provocativel anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic conference Durban 3.

The Armenian side promised to take into account the EAJC position when making a decision on the aforementioned problem, and Arman Kirakosyan reminded that Armenia is not among the 118 countries which have given a precursory promise to vote for the acceptance of Palestine into the UN.
