On August 3, representatives of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) took part in a round table titled "The Proclamation of a Democratic Autonomy by the Kurds in Turkey and the Kurdish-Iranian Armed Confrontation." The EAJC representatives were invited by the International Council of Kurdish Public Associations. The meeting took place on the premises of the Independent Press Center of Moscow.

The main reports at the round table were presented by the Chairman of the International Council of Kurdish Public Associations Merab Shamoev, Chairman of the Association of Kurdistan Communities in Russia Garzan Farman, and editor-in-chief of the "Free Kurdistan" newpaper Ishan Meroev. Among those who participated in the active discussion were the President of the Russian Union of Diasporas Vartan Mushegyan and EAJC PR Department Head Roman Spector.

The round table saw discussion on the aims and goals of creating a democratic autonomy in the Turkish Kurdistan, on the state of the negotiations between the Turkish government and the Kurdish leadership, and of the military operations of the Iranian army against the Kurds in Iraqi territory.

As Roman Spector noted during a meeting with journalists at the end of the meeting, "The story of the Jewish people has been such that we now react to the plight of other peoples, to any injustice or indifference towards them, with increased sensitivity. When the world talks about problems of the Near and Middle East, traditionally, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict takes the spotlight. But the fate of the 40-million Kurdish people, who strive if not for their own state, then at least for an accepted autonomy, is deliberately pushed back into the shadows.

EAJC has significant experience in dialogues with political, religious and social structures of evtremely diverse countries, and we believe that all problems must receive wide discussion, as this is the only way to finding a solution for them. We also believe that it is important to speak out in the support on the natural rights of other people. This is why we try to participate as much as possible in peaceful community initiatives of different national unions."
