EAJC Vice President Elected to WJC Executive Committee

                  21.06.2011

Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) Vice President Mark Shabad has been elected a member of the WJC Executive Committee at the Jerusalem meeting of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) Governing Board.

Thus the representatives of the EAJC had significantly strengthened their position in the WJC's leadership. Currently, EAJC President Alexander Mashkevich is part of the WJC Governing Board, EAJC Vice President Edward Shifrin is also WJC Vice President, and another EAJC Vice President, Alexander Bronstein, is an honorary WJC Vice President.

EAJC Presdient Alexander Mashkevich noted: "The election of Mark Shabad to the WJC Executive Committee has been quite natural and well-deserved. It is a just recognition of his services to the Jewish community, his merits as a Jewish leader. Mark Shabad is not only the Vice President of the continental branch of the WJC of many years – he is one of those who gives his time and not-insubstantial funds to the support of community life, to preserve and develop the Jewish self-consciousness, to strengthen the Diaspora's solidarity with Israel, and he does all this with an open heart. The fact that he was elected is certainly a fact of pride for the EAJC, and for all former "Jews of the Silence" as well. And I am certain that his coming the the Executive Committee will serve the World Jewish Congress well."
