The collection of the 5th international conference on the problem of refugees and evacuates in Kazakhstan, titled “History. Memory. People” has been presented in Almaty. The conference took place in 2010, at the initiative of the Association of Jewish National Organizations of Kazakhstan, with the support of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) and the JDC.
The Association of Jewish National Organizations has had twelve years of research on the history of Jews in Kazakhstan, as well as the problems of refugees and evacuates during the Great Patriotic War, both Jews and representatives of other nationalities.

The “History. Memory. People” collected materials were presented by the Association of Jewish National Organizations of Kazakhstan in coopertaion with the Central State Archive of the Republic of Kazakhstan. As the Association President, EAJC General Council Member Alexander Baron and Director of the State Archive Lyazzat Aktayeva stressed when opening the presentation, the book collects unique materials on a little-studies topic, which is becoming more and more important each year, as less and less witnesses of the events in 1941-9145 remain. Alexander Baron especially noted how hospitable the people of Kazakhstan were and still are, and how ready they were ready to accept refugees and evacuates.

The representative of the People's Assembly of Kazakhstan in the southern region Gabit Nuradil stressed in his speech that all of the people who found a second home in Kazakhstan have become one big family. “Kazakhstan is proud to have over 130 ethnicities living in its territory. Sixty of them arrived during the evacuation,” he said. The book “History. Memory. People” summarized the 5th International Conference, which had representatives of seven countries – Kazakhstan,Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Israel, the USA, and Canada. The next conference is to take place in 2012.
