During his working visit to Africa, the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) President Alexander Mashkevich visited the capital of the Republic of Niger, Niamey, where he met the leading candidate for presidency in the upcoming March elections, Mahamadou Issoufou. During the meeting with the African politican, they discussed questions of economic and social development of the republic, and potential possibilities for cooperation.

The EAJC President stressed at the meeting, "I truly wish for the people of Niger that the upcoming presidential elections will bring them true democracy that will become a guarantee of the development of Niger towards prosperity and stability. It so happened historically that the Jews were not able to contribute anything to development of Niger due to their absence on its territory. I would like very much that the Jewish presence, as represented by me, would bring real benefits to this wonderful country."
