The representatives of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) took part in an urgent meeting of the Union of Diasporas of Russia (UDR), which took place on the 14th of November in the Senator Club in Moscow, and was dedicated to the sharp worsening of the situation with interethnic relations in a number of Russian cities. The session was presided over by UDR President Vartan Mushegyan.

It was especially noted at the session that the authorities do not use the possibilities of exisiting ethnic unions to solve urgent social questions that arise in inter-ethnic relations. It was then decided to prepare a memorandum with a number of working proposals in the name of the Chairman of the Federation Council Alexander Torshin, who is responsible for inter-ethnic relations in the Russian Senate.

When commenting on recent events, EAJC President Alexander Mashkevich noted: "It is an affront that different nationalistic groups are using the tragic death of a sports fan to kindle the flames on interethnic hatred. In a multi-ethnic, multi-faith country this can have unpredictable consequences. These extremists are directly challenging the administration of the country. In connection with this, joint work by the authorities with community organizations and national unions may certainly have positive results."
