                  EAJC General Council Session Opens in Kiev

                  The most representative forum of the continental Jewish community, a session of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC), has opened in Kiev. Leaders of Jewish organizations from the entire FSU and many Easter European countries, as well as the Asian-Pacific region, have gathered in Kiev to participate in the session.
                  Among those who greeted the gathering were the Ambassador of the State of Israel in Ukraine and Moldova Zina Kalai-Kleitman, JAFI representative Shlomo Neeman, Nativ representative in Ukraine and Moldova Felix Mindel, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee leader in Kiev David Benesh, the HIAS leader in Russia and Ukraine Leonid Terletsky, and the NCSJ Alexander Shmukler.
                  On the first day of the EAJC General Council session, the participants listened to reports about Congress activity during the review period. The reports were made by EAJC leaders – General Council Chairman Josef Zisels, Secretary General Michael Chlenov, and Executive Vice President Yuri Raskin. Different areas of Congress activity were reported on by the following people: General Council Member, Director of the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies Dr. Anatoliy Podolsky; General Council Member, anti-Semitism and xenophobia expert Vyacheslav Likhachev; Director of the international children's camp "Camps of Tolerance" Nataliya Bakunina; and the Executive Director of the Congress of National Communities of Ukraine Anna Lenchovskaya.
