                  22.04.2010

A meeting between Hannah Rosenthal and the leaders of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC), the respective leaders of Ukrainian Jewish organizations, human rights representatives, and researchers took place in Kiev. The meeting took place at the residence of the American Ambassador in Ukraine.
EAJC General Council member Vyacheslav Likhachev spoke to the special representative of the Department of State about the situation with anti-Semitism in Ukraine and other FSU countries. The yearly EAJC anti-semitism reports, published in English, are an important source of information for the USA Department of State report on human rights in different countries, since the level of anti-Semitism is an important indicator of the general state of human rights in the country. EAJC information was used in the latest State Department report, as well, published in March.
During the meeting, a general agreement on further cooperation and exchange of information was reached.
EAJC General Council member, Director of the Ukrainian Holocaust Research Center Dr. Anatoliy Podolsky spoke about preserving memory of the Catastrophe in Ukraine, and of the difficulties one encounters working in research and education in this sphere.
Other participants in the meeting included the following Jewish leaders: of the Jewish Forum of Ukraine, Arkady Monastyrsky, of the All-Ukraine Association of Jews-Former Prisoners of Ghettos and Nazi Concentration Camps, Boris Zabarko, of the Ukrainian JAFI department Dani Gehtman, and of the Ukrainian Human Rights Union Vladimir Yavorsky.
