Euro-Asian Jewish Congress President Alexander Mashkevich calls for support for the initiative of the President of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) Ronald Lauder, who spoke to all the continental divisions of WJC with the proposition to sign a Declaration of Solidarity with Israel. The WJC leader's speech read as follows:
“Dear Friends! Today we begin an international campaign to demonstrate our support to the Jewish people and the State of Israel.
Israel is under fire from many different sides. Attempts to demonize and illegitimate the Jewish state become more and more commonplace.
Today is the 62nd anniversary of the founding of our nation, and we turn to all Jews of the world with a call to sign a Declaration of Support that shall be presented to the President of Israel, Shimon Peres.
This demonstration of solidarity of the world Jewish community with Israel is extremely imporant today.”
Alexander Mashkevich underscored the following: “Israel is an integral part of our life, she is always in our hearts and thoughts. The Jews of Diaspora can live outside of Israel, but cannot live without Israel. Thus, today we must raise our voices in support of Israel.”
