                  26.03.2010

Even during the time of the Soviet Union, Matzot on Pesach was an essential part of Jewish life. From 2003, the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) actively participates in providing Matzot for the communities of different countries in its region. Even in the crisis this program remains a priority for the Congress according to EAJC President Alexander Mashkevich.

This year, 34 tons of matzot was baked in Kyiv by EAJC commission. This matzot went not only to the communities of different Ukrainian cities, but also to Jews in Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, and Uzbekistan. Besides this, the Congress provided the communities of Bulgaria, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Poland, and Slovenia with funds to buy and deliver matzot from Israel independently. Alongside with the matzot bought with the money provided by the EAJC, the members of these communities received greetings from Alexander Mashkevich.

The coordination of the work of organizations that manufactured and delivered the matzot to these communities was done by the Kyiv EAJC office – by Chairman of the EAJC General Council Josef Zisels, director of programs Alexander Galkin, and the coordinator, Eduard Greenberg.
