EAJC General Council Member Granted Highest Georgian Theater Award

                  17.02.2010

Guram Batiashvili, member of the General Council of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) and famous Georgian playwright, editor-in-chief of the “Theater and Life” magazine and the “Menorah” newspaper, has received the highest theater award of Georgia. The award, named after the important stage director Kote Marjanishvili, is given for significant contributions to the development of Georgian theater. The awarding took place during a celebration on the day of Georgian theater.

The EAJC leadership congratulated Guram Batiashvili with the well-deserved award. The congratulatory letter, in particular, reads as follows, “The fact that you have received the highest theater award in Georgia is not only a testament to the recognition of your important contribution to the development of Georgian theater, but also a tribute of respect to the contribution of the Jewish diaspora to the cultural life of the country. For in all of your works you have unfailingly remained a representative of that unique Jewish group that proudly calls itself 'The Georgian Jews.' The love for your people and for your land of birth are inseparable in your plays and novels, as inseparable as the love for the Holy Land, and the brotherly people of Georgia.”
