                  Natan Sharansky elected Chairman of the Executive of JAFI

                  The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress congratulates Natan Sharansky with his appointment to the post of Chairman of the Executive of the Jewish Agency For Israel (JAFI), and wished him success in his new post.
                  The election took place on the 25th of June in Jerusalem, as part of the JAFI Board of Governors meeting.
                  In accepting his new role as Chairman, Sharansky spoke of the connection of Jews abroad, especially young Jews, with the State of Israel, a connection which he said should be a source of pride and strength for Jews around the world.
                  Natan Sharansky is a famous dissident, refusenick, and prisoner of Zion. His name was a symbol of the battle for human rights in the Soviet Union. The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress expresses confidence that the personal and managerial qualities of the new Chairman of the Executive will aid JAFI in its successful activity.
