President of Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Alexander Mashkevich Visits Ukraine

On the 6-7 of April, 2009, the President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) Alexander Mashkevich visited Ukraine. The head of the Congress had a number of business meetings and talks connected to public activity.
One of the meetings was dedicated to the discussion of the possible cooperation between the EAJC and the Victor Pinchuk Fund. Besides Victor Pinchuk and Alexandex Mashkevich, the chairman of the EAJC General Council Joseph Zissels was also present at the meeting, and he was given the task of developing a joint project. The idea is to adapt the project of the Victor Pinchuk Fund “Spell your name...” which included a movie and a learning aide, to be used on the entire territory of the CIS as part of the program “Tolerance–Lessons of the Holocaust.”
The main task of the program “Tolerance–Lessons of the Holocaust” is to teach national and interreligious tolerance through giving lessons of the history of the Holocaust and other genocides in schools. In the framework of the program, 8 CIS countries have lectures on the Holocaust itself and methods of teaching about this event, “round tables,” international seminars, student contests, as well as educating regional coordinators for the program.
Besides that, Alexander Mashkevich and Joseph Zissels met with members of the Congress Board of Directors Alexander Litinetsky and Felix Kazakov, and also with several candidates for becoming members of the Board of Directors. During the meetings, Maskevich confirmed the desire of the EAJC to widen its contacts with a large circle of businessmen in the Jewish communities of the region, and confirmed his desire to aid in solving their problems with joint effots.
Alexander Mashkevich and Joseph Zissels also discussed the current tasks before the Congress, based on the decisions made during the meeting of the EAJC Presidium on the 3-4 of April in Astana.
