Meeting of JAFI Leadership With Representatives of Ukrainian Jewish Organizations in Kiev

 On the 21st of March in Kiev, on the premises of the Galitskaya synagogue, the meeting of the Director General of the Repatriation and Absorption Department of the Jewish Agency For Israel (JAFI) Eli Kohen and the representatives of the leadership of the main Jewish organizations of Ukraine. The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) was represented by a member of the General Council of the EAJC Vyacheslac Likhachev.
The influence of the world financial economic crisis on the situation of the Jews in Ukraine was discussed during the meeting, in particular, the possible increase in the numbers of those who wish to make aliyah from Ukraine. Vyacheslav Likhachev told Eli Kohen about the ways the crisis influenced the community life in Ukraine and the moods in the Jewish community. Also, Likhachev described the situation with anti-Semitism in Ukraine.
In turn, the Director General of the JAFI Repatriation Department notified the Ukrainian community leaders of new programs aimed at attracting those who wish to make aliyah into Israel, and about the facilitation of the process of absorption of new repatriates.
