Statement of the Secretary General of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress About the Deportation of Rabbi Israel Silberstein from Russ

Statement of the Secretary General of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress About the Deportation of Rabbi Israel Silberstein from Russia

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress is extremely perplexed about the decision made by the court of the Pervorechensk region of Vladivostok on the deportation of Rabbi Israel Silberstein, who is accused of a violation of the rules of entrance and stay in the Russian Federation.
This decision might affect the spiritual life of the Jewish community of Russia.
The effort to attract a large number of foreign spiritual leaders is a compulsory measure of the country's Jewish community. During the Soviet times, the system of Jewish education had been destroyed. This is the reason it is necessary to invite rabbis from foreign countries, who are indubitably on a cultural mission. The Jewish community at the moment cannot relinquish this practice.
We hope that the federal authorities understand the predicament of the Jewish community and will be able to find a compromise in this situation.
                  With all due respect,
                  M.A. Chlenov
