US Congressmen: There Is Almost No Anti-Semitism in Kazakhstan.

Astana, Kazakhstan. September 4, 2007. - The policy conducted by Kazakhstan in the field of interethnic and interfaith relations meets high standards. The conclusion was made by Rep. Eni Faleomavaega (D-AS), Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific and the Global Environment Chairman, and Rep. Chris Cannon (R-UT), Committee on Natural Resources member. According to the ROSBALT news agency (Russia), the US Congressmen participated in the Kazakhstan's Way To A Nuclear Weapon-Free World Conference, after which met with the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) President Alexander Machkevitch.
"I was pleased to hear that, unlike in some countries in our region, almost no grassroots Anti-Semitism can be found here, while any form of Jude phobia, that could be initiated by the government, is impossible here in principle", - said Dr. Machkevitch, who is also the President of the Jewish Congress of Kazakhstan (JCK), one of the EAJC co-founders.
In the course of the conversation, the Congressmen noted that Kazakhstan was one of the first states to have voluntarily abandoned their nuclear weapons. "Our guests not only recognize the disarmament to be an important historical fact, but consider Kazakhstan's experience to be helpful for the certain states in South and South-East Asia, that are now involved in regional conflicts", - Machkevitch stated.
The meeting participants also discussed prospects for the Jewry of former Soviet Union participation in global initiatives for tolerance. "The Congressmen expressed willingness to join the efforts in the framework of the international interethnic and interfaith dialogue, we had established here a few years back under the auspices of the Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev", - the EAJC President concluded.
