                  EAJC Leadership Activities
                  USA-Russia-Ukraine, April-May 2007

                  On May 1-4, 2007 the 101st Annual Meeting of the American Jewish Committee (AJC), one the leading organizations of American Jewry gathering politicians at its meetings, was held in Washington, DC. The Meeting of 2007 was attended by the President of Colombia A'lvaro Uribe Ve'lez, the President of Latvia Vaira Vike-Freiberga, Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations Zalmay Khalilzad, the Former CIA Director R. James Woolsey, US Senators and Representatives, etc.
                  Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) sent an international delegation with Michael Chlenov, the EAJC Secretary General, the Vaad of Russia President, as its head. The delegation included the representatives of Jewish organizations and communities from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Poland, and Uzbekistan.
                  The Vaad of Ukraine and the EAJC Kyiv office were represented by its Director Liudmila Braginsky, who informed the delegation members on the panel discussion "Civilization identities in the Ukrainian regions: Differences and problems of overcoming", which was held on April 24, 2007 in Kyiv, chaired by the EAJC General Council Chairman, the Vaad on Ukraine Chairman Josef Zissels and in which several prominent experts took part.
                  At the Meeting in Washington, DC the members and guests of the forum were offered reports on the vital questions of Jewish life and international relations, including such topics as "Preparing for a new world", "The Intellectual Attack on Pro-Israel Advocacy", "The Meanings of Jewish Peoplehood", "The Future of Israel", "Winds of Change in the Middle East", "Winning War of Ideas" and "The Quest for Energy Independence".
                  The AJC Meeting was led by its newly elected AJC President Richard Sideman, AJC Executive Director David Harris, and AJC Director of International Jewish Affairs, r. Andrew Baker.
                  After coming back to Moscow, in the evening of May 12, 2007 the EAJC Secretary General, the Vaad of Russia President Michael Chlenov took part in the reception organized by the National Conference on Soviet Jewry (NCSJ), its leaders visiting Russia, Ukraine and Estonia. NCSJ was presented by the NCSJ Chairman Edward Robin, the NCSJ President Lesley Israel, the NCSJ Executive Director Mark Levin and the Director of Community Services and Cultural Affairs Lesley Weiss.
                  The Jewish organizations of Russia leaders were also presented by the Federal Jewish Ethnic-Cultural Autonomy (FJECA) of Russia Director General Eugenia Mikhaleva, the "Phoenix" Charity Foundation President Svetlana Muterperel, the Vaad of Russia Executive Director Diana Salganik, etc.
                  From Moscow the NCSJ delegation left to Kyiv, where it met with the EAJC General Council Chairman, the Vaad of Ukraine Chairman Josef Zissels, and together with him took part in the negotiations with the representatives of the Ukrainian officials and Jewish community, and was also received by the Ambassadors of the United States and Israel to Ukraine.
