KYRGYZSTAN NATIVE TO BUILD SYNAGOGUE IN BISHKEK

Jewish life seems to activate in Kyrgyzstan, Central Asia. An impulse was given by the visit of Alexander Machkevitch, Kyrgyzstan native, a famous billionaire and philanthropist.
20 years ago he made his way in Kyrgyz science which he recently pursued with defending his doctoral thesis in his native country. And the other day he returned to the city of his youth to get the complete recognition from his fellow-countrymen.
Dr. Machkevitch, as Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) President, was received by Kyrgyzstan President Kurmanbek Bakiev. The EAJC leader being also Eurasian Industrial Association (EIA) Chairman, intensive investment in Kyrgyz economy and other business questions were being negotiated. And some other matters, too.
It has been settled that a new synagogue will be erected in Bishkek, the Kyrgyzstan capital. Dr. Machkevitch is going to dedicate the synagogue to his mother's memory under the name of "Beit Rachel".
"I give it to all my countrymen born in different regions of the former Soviet Union, who are all part of the unique Jewish community in the very heart of Asia", - the EAJC President told the journalists after the meeting with Bakiev, - "The Bishkek Jewry must have a center fitting to the community's status and demands. And I will do everything to make it happen as soon as possible".
Dr. Machkevitch commented on the situation in Kyrgyzstan pointing to the traditional tolerance of the Kyrgyz nation. "Kyrgyzstan welcomed and helped the Jews when Europe was seized by the fire of Holocaust", - reminded EAJC President, - "Supporter of the civil peace being President Bakiev testifies with his all deeds that Kyrgyzstan will be a mutual home for all the ethnic groups living here henceforth".
