Azerbaijan President Met American Jewish Leaders.

 On April 26, 2006, in the course of the Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev visit to the United States, he met with the group of American Jewish leaders. The meeting was organized with the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) participation.
On the part of Azerbaijan, the following persons also participated in the negotiations: Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the US Hafiz Pashaev.
American Jewry was represented by: WJC, NCSJ, Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, UJC, AJC, AIPAC, Hadassah, USCJ, Rabbinical Assembly, Chabad-Lubavitch, etc.
During the meeting, the questions of peace process in the Middle East and Caucasus, Armenian-Azerbaijan conflict and Nagorno-Karabakh problem, Azerbaijan Jewish Community and Azerbaijan-Israeli relations, prospects for international interethnic and inter-religious dialogue have been considered.
The EAJC General Council Chairman Josef Zissels, who took part in the negotiations, passed on to participants of the meetings a greeting from the EAJC President Alexander Machkevitch, and clarified the EAJC position in support of the Jackson-Vanik amendment abolition for Azerbaijan.
I. Aliyev expressed his gratitude to Dr. Machkevitch initiative, and asked American Jewry to support the EAJC proposal.
Then the American Jewish leaders, who had visited Baku, the Azeri capital, due to EAJC support, expressed their satisfaction with a hospitable welcome in Azerbaijan, and their confidence in positive prospects for the dialogue that began.
