                  EAJC General Council Chairman Visits
                  Azerbaijan-Moldova, March 16-25, 2006

                  On March 16-18, 2006, during his visit to Baku, the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) General Council Chairman Josef Zissels had a meeting with Azerbaijan President State Advisor on National Policy Hidayat Orujov, Azerbaijan Emergency Minister Kamalladin Heydarov, State Committee for work with Azerbaijanis Living Abroad Chairman Nazim Ibragimov, and other officials.
                  On March 25, 2006, in Chisinau, J. Zissels negotiated with Prime Minister of Moldova Vasile Tarlev, with participation of Moldova Association of Jewish Organizations and Communities Chairman Jacob Tichman. Issues of fight against anti-Semitism, restitution of Jewish community's property in Moldova were discussed during the meeting together with other problems of mutual interest.
                  V. Tarlev appreciated EAJC initiatives and promised to report about them to President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin.
                  J. Zissels had individual meetings with US Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Moldova Heather Hodges, J. Tichman, and Moldova Jewish Congress President Alexander Pinchevsky.
                  Commenting to Jewish media on his visits, EAJC General Council Chairman particularly noted that during all the meetings in Baku and Chisinau they had discussed prospects of Jackson-Vanik amendment abolition for the FSU states, where it is still in force.
                  At the end of his visit to Moldova J. Zissels spoke in the "KEDEM" Chisinau Jewish Community Center during the opening of the Tolerance Club for youth. After Kyiv and Lviv clubs, the Chisinau Club became the third one opened in the framework of the joint program of the EAJC and Ukraine Congress of Ethnic Communities.
                  On behalf of EAJC President Alexander Machkevitch, EAJC General Council Chairman greeted participants of the ceremony and wished the Club successful operation.
                  After the welcoming speeches, demonstration of documentary film "My Many-faced Chisinau" and unique collection "Ethno fashion" took place together with performance of amateur national groups and "Make a suit" contest.
