KAZAKHSTAN JEWISH LEADER HOSTED A DELEGATION OF US CONGRESSMEN

During their visit to Kazakhstan, a group of US Congressmen, including Rep. Robert Aderholt (AL), Rep. Jim McDermott (WA) and Rep. Maurice Hinchey (NY), met with the leader of the largest Jewish organization in Eurasia, Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) President Alexander Machkevitch.
The EAJC leader noted that the held negotiations had become a new step in the international interethnic and inter-religious dialogue carried out under the auspices of the Kazakhstan President Noursultan Nazarbayev.
"While in other countries of former USSR we face unconcealed anti-Semitism, the Kazakh people, who during World War II had saved many thousands of Jews from the nightmare of Holocaust, and has thousand-year immunity against every kind of Nazism, today becomes one of the driving forces in the global peacemaking process," - said Dr. Machkevitch.
He also pointed out that the members of the US delegation had approved of the role of the government and civil society institutions in consolidating interethnic and inter-confessional peace in Kazakhstan.
The meeting between US Congressmen and Kazakhstan Jewish community leaders took place in the framework of the "Interethnic and Inter-confessional Relations" round table.
Then, the US delegation visited Beit-Rachel capital synagogue. The guests were accompanied by EAJC Treasurer Fedor Ossinin, and r. Yeshaya Cohen, EAJC Council of Rabbis Chairman and Rabbi-in-Chief of Kazakhstan.
