Ella Pamfilova, Chairperson of the Commission on Human Rights under the President of the Russian Federation, held a meeting with representatives of Jewish and Human Rights organizations: Alexander Brod, director of the Moscow Human Rights Bureau, Mikhail Chlenov, EAJC General Secretary, and Matvey Chlenov, Director of the Moscow Office of the World Congress of Russian Jews.
At the meeting, MHRB, WCRJ and EAJC each presented their materials concerning the manifestations of anti-Semitism and xenophobia in Russia with the collusion of law-enforcement bodies. It was pointed out that a legal basis to fight against xenophobia and anti-Semitism has already been formed, and the only thing now needed for its effective implementation, is political will. Ella Pamfilova, who will be the official speaker from Russia at the OSCE Conference on Anti-Semitism, expressed intense interest in cooperating with Russian Jewish and Human Rights organizations.
The project, "Public campaign to counteract racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism and ethnic discrimination in the multiethnic Russian Federation" is being carried out by the Moscow Human Rights Bureau (MHRB), the Moscow Helsinki Group (MHG), and the Union of Councils for Soviet Jews (USA), with the help of the European Commission. The Chairperson of the Commission on Human Rights under the President of the Russian Federation, expressed a deep interest in assisting the Bureau and participate in its public activities.
