The statement of the Jewish Community of Turkmenistan in support of Joseph Zissels, the EAJC General Council Chairman, the Vaad

                  29.07.2003

JEWS OF TURKMENISTAN TRUST JOSEPH ZISSELS!

After reading the “Declaration”, Jewish representatives from all 5 regions of Turkmenistan have come to the conclusion that criticism is appropriate when given in a constructive manner. It is possible to criticize everyone regardless of rank. However public slander is not constructive.
We think that the signatories have money enough to convoke All-Ukrainian Jewish Forum, where any claims to Joseph Zissels could be expressed. That would be a chance to hear from the Jews of Ukraine not taking responsibility to speak about distrust to Joseph Zissels on behalf of them. But even now it is clear that the majority of Jewish organizations in the republic support and trust Joseph Zissels because he works with ordinary Jews and primary organizations both in regions and in the capital much.
He has accomplished a lot for Turkmen Jews as an EAJC leader, – so much, it is even difficult to quantify it. Itemizing his all deeds would take a great deal of time. We are confident that all the communities in EAJC member countries will share our opinion. And international opinion is a force – ignoring it leads to severe consequences.
If the functionaries-signatories acquaint themselves with materials from the Central Asia Presidential Forum in cooperation with the Conference of Presidents of the USA Jewish Organizations, which was held in February 2003 and to organization of which Joseph Zissels applied a lot of forces (though it was just one aspect of his activity), there shouldn’t be any charges in destructive work. All Zissels’ activities are directed to consolidate all the Jewish organizations in order to provide ordinary Jews with more help wherever they live. The example is Turkmen Jewish Community.
