STRENGTHENING RELATIONS WITH AMERICAN JEWS IN MOSCOW

Alexander Machkevich and Michael GalperinOn June 26, the president of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) Alexander Machkevich gave a reception at the Moscow restaurant Prague for the president of the Washington Jewish Federation Michael Galperin, the highest-ranking former Soviet citizen in the American Jewish community today.
Together with the EAJC General Secretary Michael Chlenov, who was recently appointed president of the Federal Jewish National-Cultural Autonomy (FJNCA), and the chairman of the EAJC General Council and the president of the Vaad of Ukraine Josef Zissels, Alexander Machkevich has continued to strengthen relations with American Jews.
Machkevich said that general questions of mutual understanding with the American colleagues were discussed, as well as joint programs between the two communities.
“In preparing for the forthcoming Second Peace and Understanding Conference in Turkey under the leadership of Kazakhstan’s President Noursultan Nazarbaev, we seek the support of American Jews, particularly in developing the Jewish-Islamic dialogue,” he said.
It is necessary to mention that Jewish leaders from the United States have been frequently traveling to Russia on official visits to attend meetings at different levels, including meetings with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.
