                  EAJC Secretary General / New Initiatives Moscow, February - March 2003

                  Michael Chlenov, Secretary General of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (ЕАJC), gave an interview to the EAJC Public Relations and Media Department, in which he outlined his activities and initiatives in February - March of 2003.
                  Prof. M. Chlenov reported on his participation in the activities of the Advisory Council of National Cultural Autonomies of the Government of Russia. At the session of the Council on February 19, 2003, he delivered a comprehensive report on the "The Development Prospects for National Education in the Russian Federation".
                  The paper focused on the development of Jewish education from preschool up to the tertiary. In his speech, Prof. M. Chlenov also identified the problems facing national education in Russia. Representatives of the senior echelons of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation took part in the subsequent debate and discussion.
                  As a tribute to his contribution Prof. M. Chlenov was invited to head the Commission on Education of the Advisory Council of National Cultural Autonomies of Russia.
                  Prof. M. Chlenov also discussed his participation in the Second Conference of Journalists of the Jewish mass media of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), held with the support of the Memorial Foundation for the Jewish Culture, in Moscow on March 3-5, 2003.
                  During the Conference, the EAJC Secretary General gave a report on "The Development of Connections of the Jewish Communities of the CIS with the Jewish World". In his report, he emphasized that successful entry of the Jewish organizations and communities of the CIS countries into the world Jewish community is given substance by their participation in the EAJC’s activity. Describing the history of the ЕАJC, he highlighted the emergence in the ЕАJC of a transnational ethnic element, through its new member organization, the World Congress of Mountain Jews (WCMJ).
