The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress has given a hand to northern peoples.

                  18.12.2002

Today the solemn ceremony on the occasion of the year of small nations declared by UNESCO and the 10-anniversary of Inter-regional League of small peoples and ethnic groups is taking place in the RF Council of Federation. Celebrating will be held at support of the Union of Diasporas of the Russian Federation and the largest Jewish organization of the continent - the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress.
In the message on the occasion of the celebration the EAJC President, Alexander Mashkevich, has noted special merits of the Head of the League of small peoples and ethnic groups, Yevdokiya Gayer, in development of cooperation between the Jewish Diaspora of Eurasia and peoples of the North. The EAJC President has reminded that during the period of Gayer's being the People's Deputy of the USSR her position influenced exclusion from the official lexicon the term "minor people" offensive both for inhabitants of the North and for Jews.
According to the EAJC President, for today his organization has successful experience of participation in interethnic and interreligious dialogue. Cooperation with religious leaders and heads of Islamic states develops especially successfully. "Participation of the EAJC in present celebrations means that the Congress will develop constructive cooperation with wide spectrum of organizations representing interests of various peoples and ethnic groups", has emphasized Mashkevich.
