                  29.09.2002

"I’ve instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs not to close down the Embassy in Minsk despite severe economic situation the country experiences nowadays. When making this decision I based on importance of Israeli representation in Byelorussian Republic". With this words the Prime Minister of Israel Ariel Sharon answered the requests against closing down the Embassy of Israel in Byelorussia.
The leader of Jewish community in Byelorussia and the member of the Committee of Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) Leonid Levin has come out with a request not to close down the Embassy.
The request found support and was expressed by the EAJC President Alexander Mashkevich; Secretary General Mikhail Chlenov and General Council Chairman Joseph Zisels in the address to Prime Minister of Israel Ariel Sharon.
At getting aquatinted with the contents of the letter addressed to L.Levin by the Israeli Prime Minister, the EAJC President Alexander Mashkevich has stressed with gratification: "I consider it to be the best evidence of efficient activity of Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC). It proves EAJC is able to achieve solution of the objectives set before Jewish communities of Euro-Asia".
