London pro-Palestinian event with links to Hamas and Hezbollah to go ahead
28.06.2017, Israel and the World A pro-Palestinian event due to be held in London will go ahead, despite a government threat to ban it over the organizers’ links to terror groups Hamas and Hezbollah.
The ‘’Palestine Expo’’, described as being “the biggest social, cultural and entertainment event on Palestine to ever take place in Europe”, is to take place in the Queen Elizabeth II Centre (QEII) in the British capital on 8 and 9 July.
Earlier in the week, a government minister, Sajid Javid, in charge of communities and local government, wrote a letter to the organizers, Friends of Al Aqsa, to express concerns ‘’that your organisation and those connected with it have expressed public support for a proscribed organisation, namely Hamas, and that you have supported events at which Hamas and Hezbollah – also proscribed – have been praised”.
A spokesman for the department for communities and local government told the Jewish media in London: “We have worked with the QEII Centre to carry out checks following concerns raised about the Palestine Expo 2017. Following these checks, we have agreed the event can take place as planned.”
10,000 people are expected to attend the event.
