Benjamin Netanyahu meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow
09.03.2017, Israel and the World Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flew to to Moscow for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to the Prime Minister’s Media Adviser, the meeting is aimed at continuing the ongoing link between Israel and Russia in order to prevent friction in Syria.
Netanyahu is expected to express Israel's strong opposition to the presence of Iranian forces, and those of its proxies, on Israel’s northern border (the Goan) and in the Mediterranean Sea in the context of the talks on a settlement of any kind.
He will also reiterate to President Putin the fact that the Golan Heights is not part of the discussion on any outline. Netanyahu said he has asked both the Russian President and US President Donald Trump to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights.
"This is a very important meeting for the security of Israel. Victory over the terrorism of Daesh cannot lead to an upsurge in terrorism by Iran and its proxies. We will not exchange terrorism for terrorism," he said.
