'Make it clear that the UN resolution was unjust, totally biased and counter-productive to peace’
28.12.2016 ‘’As someone who has devoted my public service to establishing peace with our Palestinian neighbors, including in my capacity as Chair of the Knesset’s Lobby for the Two-State Solution, I cannot hide my extreme disappointment at the passing of this unjust resolution, including its support by our European allies at the UN,’’ writes Deputy Speaker of the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, in a letter addressed to Parliamentarians across Europe.
He is refering to the ‘’one-sided and wholly counter-productive resolution’’ that passed against the State of Israel at the UN Security Council last Friday.
‘’Regrettably, this resolution will not bring peace closer,’’ says Bar, a member of the opposition Labour party who chairs the European Forum of the Knesset, adding that ‘’all it did was reward Palestinian terror and intransigence, embolden Israel’s enemies, such as supporters of the BDS Movement and push real and lasting peace further away.’’
Allow me please to make it abundantly clear He said ‘’peace between Israel and our Palestinian neighbors will only come from direct, unconditional and sincere negotiations between the parties in Jerusalem and Ramallah, not via the United Nations or imposed from external sources,’’ which is a position reriterated time and again by the Israeli government.
Bar stressed that only one week before this resolution, Ban-Ki Moon, the outgoing UN Secretary-General, lamented at UN’s “bias” and “disproportionate focus” against Israel.
He continued, ‘’This resolution, just like the UN’s infamous ‘Zionism is Racism’ one, is just another dark chapter in the UN’s incessant assault against the rights of the State of Israel and the Jewish people, including the absurdity of labeling the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem and the Western Wall, one of our holiest sites, as ‘’occupied’’.
He called on the Parliamentarians in Europe ‘’as true and committed friends of the State of Israel’’ to show their support for Israel and ‘’make it abundantly clear in your Parliaments, Foreign Ministry and communities, that this resolution was unjust, totally biased and counter-productive to peace.’’
