Attempted attack at Israel's embassy in Turkey by man wielding knife and shouting 'Allahu Akbar'
21.09.2016, Israel and the World A man wielding a knife and shouting ‘’Allahu Akbar’’ attempted an attack at the Israeli embassy in Ankara on Wednesday.
According to the Israeli foreign ministry, the attacker, identified as 38-year-old Nuri Caliskan, was stopped as he attempted to stab one of the security guards before he could reach the embassy. He was shot in the leg by local security forces and neutralized.
"The staff is safe. The attacker was wounded before he reached the embassy," a ministry spokesman said in a text message.
CNN Turk reported that there was a suspicious package near the embassy which is being examined.
Israel and Turkey recently signed a reconciliation deal after a six-year rift in ties that were ruptured over the 2010 Mavi Marmara incident.
