‘’I thank the Czech government for making the right decision and not surrendering to lies and the wild incitement of the Palestinians,” said Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat following the decision of the Czech government not to remove Jerusalem as Israel’s capital from the Czech school atlas.

“We are on the map! The truth will defeat lies,” said Barkat.

The Czech move came days after daily newspaper Mlada fronta Dnes reported that following pressure from the Palestinian delegation in Prague textbook publisher Shocart was told by the government to rewrite all its books listing Jerusalem as the capital, or lose certification as a recognized Czech school book.

‘’I am happy that the letter that I sent to the Czech Prime Minister Sobotka and the diplomatic efforts paid off and influenced the decision,’’ said Nir Barkat.

Czech Education Minister, Katerina Valachova, said that the atlas has official approval from her office and that the ministry has no intention of becoming involved in the matter until 2017. She also pointed out that it was not the ministry's job to become embroiled in a political dispute.

“Jerusalem is Israel’s capital from the viewpoint of the declaration of the country to which this relates, which means Israel,” Valachova said. “If there is a sentence relating to all of the international steps, I believe that this fact will not offend either side.”
