Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu travelled to the Netherlands on Tuesday for meetings with the country’s leaders as he is trying to convince Europe that the Israel is a key player in efforts to stem a rising tide of Islamic terrorism.

His two-day visit in The Hague, capital of the Netherlands, was also aimed at “deepening the bilateral relations” between the two countries.

During his visit, Netanyahu presented Israel’s policy in the regional context and vis-à-vis Europe.

Netanyahu met with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte who is described by the Israeli premier as ‘’a friend of Israel and a personal friend of mine’’.

He later met with the Dutch King Willem Alexander at the Noordeinde Palace — the first meeting between the Israeli Prime Minister and the monarch since his succession to the throne on April 30, 2013.

He will also visit the two chambers of the Dutch parliament and meet with Senate President Ankie Broekers-Knol and House of Representatives Speaker Khadija Arib, and meet members of the parliament’s foreign affairs committee.

Netanyahu said he would discuss Israel as a "stable element" in the Mideast during his trip. "Europe as a whole is undergoing changes," he said. "It faces very great challenges over the spread of radical Islamic terrorism. I am going to speak with my interlocutors about the central role of Israel in the Middle East as the most stable element and one that contributes greatly to preventing the spread of radical Islamic terrorism.’’

‘’This is a new understanding; it is important, of course, for Israel and the states of the region but it is also very important for Europe. It is this understanding that we are working to instill gradually in all European countries," he added.
