Prestigious German university's student council condemns BDS as anti-Semitic
23.08.2016, Israel and the World In a groundbreaking resolution, students at the prestigious University of Leipzig, Germany, have condemned the anti-Israel BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement as anti-Semitic.
In the resolution, the student council condemned such “anti-Semitic boycott campaigns” and said it would stand up “against the execution, participation in, and promotion of such campaigns and events at the University of Leipzig.” This includes a rejection of BDS-related “events, exhibitions, demonstrations, etc.”
The resolution also called the BDS campaign “an existential threat to the Jews,” given the openly stated threats by Hamas, Hezbollah and the Iranian regime against Israel and Jews worldwide.
It also said that calling Israel an “apartheid” state constitutes demonization of the Jewish state and that denying Israel’s rights to exist and defend itself are forms of delegitimization.
According to the Jerusalem Post, the resolution was initiated after a professor at the University of London, Lori Allen, advocated for BDS during a book-related event held at Leipzig University in June.
